Artist or artisan? He knows his craft and pushes the boundaries with his designs. Taking an idea from a sketch through every step: sourcing trees, seasoning the timber, preparing the stock, cutting the joints, building the piece and finishing the surfaces. Wilfred is empowered by creating original things from scratch with his own hands.
He designs pieces because – in his world – he has no other choice. They have to be made. His best work comes to be when he is able to free himself of existing conventions. Wilfred respects the timber itself. He allows it to retain its character while giving it purpose, coaxing it into unexpected shapes.
