Wilfred Kalf

Artist or artisan?

He knows his craft and pushes the boundaries with his designs. Taking an idea from a sketch through every step: sourcing trees, seasoning the timber, preparing the stock, cutting the joints, building the piece and finishing the surfaces. Wilfred is empowered by creating original things from scratch with his own hands.

His designs

He designs pieces because – in his world – he has no other choice. They have to be made. His best work comes to be when he is able to free himself of existing conventions. Wilfred respects the timber itself. He allows it to retain its character while giving it purpose, coaxing it into unexpected shapes.

    Cabinets of Curiosity

We are curious makers of things, things we dream up ourselves. Remarkable, useful, beautiful and original things. Sometimes they are made entirely by hand, sometimes partly by machine, in the future perhaps by robots. May be not robots. Always with an eye for detail and with an element of fun.

If you care to follow this blog and join our journey, we’ll share our successes and (occasional) failures with you and hopefully you’ll become a frequent visitor. Suppose that depends on us keeping you entertained. So let’s get on with the words and pictures.
